ipTEST have developed a Linux-based system controller running on an industrial PC platform.
The Linux controller offers a cost-effective alternative to the Itanium platform used to control ipTEST systems until now. As well as offering a lower price-point, it facilitates easier installation of ipTEST systems into customer’s factory networks and offers independence from proprietary operating systems. The hardware is basd on a ruggedised, established platform and occupies the same low-profile 2U cabinet space as the Itanium, making the Linux PC an easy system upgrade.
ipTEST system software uses the same source code for both Linux and Itanium platforms, ensuring both compatibility of ipTEST applications like the Editor and Run, as well as ensuring both platforms can be maintained using the same system code.
ipTEST roadmap for the Linux platform is that it will be the ‘platform of choice’ for new system installs and future software development, and in time to suplant the Itanium hardware, to and eliminate customer 3rd party dependancy.
